Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Golden Flower Crown Review

If you saw my review of “Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals,” you would know how much I loved the product. So, it should come as no surprise that I went ahead and picked up a couple more variants from this range because I really couldn’t have enough of it. I’m happy to see that Wet and Wild has finally launched in India and both the original variants (Precious Petals and Crown of My Canopy) are easily available online for you to buy. Though a bit bummed that these new shades launched by Wet and Wild did not join the collection in India. So, let us find out more about “Golden Flower Crown.”

Product Description:

Packaging:
The individual pan comes in a square plastic packaging with a transparent lid. There is no outer cardboard packaging – which is in line with most drugstore products. No mirror or brush either. Obviously, all these things add to the price of the product and if you strip them off, it contributes to the lower pricing. There is a sticker on the flip side with the details of the ingredients along with batch code. The lid secures tightly. I do not know if time will impact the tightness of this adversely. The pan is fairly big in size and I have a feeling that it wouldn’t be running too deep, so I wouldn’t advice travelling too much with it, lest it shatters. The product in the pan has the same design as the one on “Precious Petals,” which is utterly gorgeous to look at, it actually mesmerises you. I am trying my best to use the product from the sides and not mess with the design too much!

My Experience with Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Golden Flower Crown:

A quick brief about the product – Wet and Wild launched the MegaGlo Highlgihting powder a while back, as limited edition highlighters, in two shades – “Precious Petals” and “Crown of my Canopy.” The product did extremely well for them and became their “number one” selling highlighters. Seeing the success of the MegaGlow highlighters, they decided to not only make the product permanent in these two shades – but also added more shades to the line – including the one I am reviewing today.

Shade:  “Golden Flower Crown” is a light warm gold shade with soft yellow undertone and a metallic sheen. While it is a yellow gold highlighter, it isn’t in the same ball park as the more obvious yellow of the “Fenty Beauty Trophy Wife,” and so, this one is much more easier to carry off for fair to medium skin tones. While I was sitting on the fence with the MegaGlo highlighters, this shade and the shade “Blossom Glow” were the ones I was keen on trying rather than “Precious Petals.” The reason being, “Precious Petals” is more peachy rose gold and I thought Golden Flower Crown or Blossom Glow might be lighter and more workable for me. My preference was towards “Blossom Glow.”

The reason that I had picked Precious Petals, the store only had Precious Petals and Crown of my Canopy (which is a much darker shade) and I was smitten with it at first swatch. And while it works beautifully, to give me a lovely booming glow, it isn’t as highlighting (read lifting) for my cheeks. To explain this better, while we do live in strange interesting times where highlighting is all about creating a glow visible from “outer space,” the actual purpose of highlighting is to either “bring forth (out)” or “lift” a certain area. When we highlight the top of the cheekbone and it catches the light, it is supposed to give the appearance of a higher cheekbone – than one might actually have. And I was right, this shade – Golden Flower Crown – is light enough and yet warm enough to work beautifully for my skin tone. It creates the boom while it also gives a lifting effect to my cheeks. I am surprised by how much I like this shade because in my mind, I am not drawn to “golden” highlighters, but to more “champagne” ones!!  The shade is distinctly golden and yet a soft version, so it is easier to carry off. It will work truly well for light to medium skin tone females, I quite love the shade. Also, the powder is quite reflective – so, it does create the Instagram-perfect glow. But, it can be used with a light hand or a wispy brush to create a more sheer texture.

Texture: The texture is soft and smooth to touch. It is extremely easy to pick up on most brushes and blends beautifully. If you use a more fluffy brush like the Wayne Goss Fan Brush, you can apply it lightly. If you use a smaller, more tapered brush or a more dense brush, you will get the distinct Instagram highlight. With a heavier application; the lighter, more golden colour and the metallic sheen, it will pronounce texture on your skin though. I feel that this may be less forgiving on textured skin than “Precious Petals” because of the above-mentioned reasons, but used in a normal way (read non-Instagram application), texture should not be an issue. Also, it blends easily and is very easy to diffuse, looks quite pretty once diffused and buffed.

Pigmentation: The pigmentation is good but it doesn’t look starkly golden on the skin and it diffuses easily and blends well while still retaining the appearance of lifting the cheek. And this is exactly what you want in a highlight.

FOTD: In the FOTD, the shade has been used on the highpoint of the cheekbones and above the brow bone. You get a clear pic on how distinctly metallic the highlight is, how lifting it is and yet, how flattering the shade can be. The swatch give you a more clearer view of the shade.

Longevity: The product wears exceptionally well. It stays put for 7.5-8 hours, which is a lot on my oily skin.

Pros of Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Golden Flower Crown:

• Soft and smooth powder.
• Frosted metallic sheen.
• No shimmer particles or even fine micro glitter.
• Blends easily.
• Fairly long-lasting – even with my oily skin.
• The colour can be made to look subtle but you get the feel that it is designed for a more pronounced highlight.
• Did not break me out.
• A little product goes a long way.

Cons of Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Golden Flower Crown:

• The packaging worries me, not the fact that it is plastic and looks cheap, that is understood considering the price point. My worry is the pan size, which may result in it shattering if not handled properly.
